Case Study:

Repair of 1,800,000 in-lb capacity torque limiter.

• Design based on spring loaded plates holding against a circle of balls in detents
• Main drive plate became loose
• Main drive plate cracked through
• Torque limiter would no longer operate

The torque was being transmitted through roll pins and a bolt circle. The roll pins were eliminated and replaced with precision machined radial keys. The drive plate material was changed to a much tougher material to resist cracking. The bolts holding the drive plate in position were tightened and then set using hog rings. The torque limiter has been repaired and improved. The precision unit was reverse engineered, redesigned, rebuilt, and delivered as an enhanced product.
