Alignment:

• Bearing and seal alignment is independent of the mounting surfaces. Alignment is controlled, based on a machined drum and a machined shaft, that is concentric with the drum.

Seals:

• Seals are protected from abuse because they are inboard from the ends of the drum.
• Water is spun away from the sealed area. In a standard design with a rotating shaft, the seal must lift water off of the shaft.
• No inboard seal is required due to an internal crossing pipe.

Bearings:

• Proper tolerancing with a stationary inner bearing allows for a slip-fit inner race and a press-fit outer race. A straight bore bearing is used with no tapered adapter required.
• There is no roller clearance check required as with a tapered adapter.
• No need for a "fixed" and a "free" bearing. Axial movement is controlled by simple shaft shoulders.
• No need to account for thermal expansion. Thermal expansion is accounted for by cutting back the shaft shoulders a little extra to allow the shaft to "float".

Lubrication:

• Grease is forced from the back side of the bearing and out under the seal in clear view. Grease must pass through the bearing to get out.
• Center cross pipe creates a reservoir of grease, extending the time between required maintenance.

Stresses:

• Low end disc stress. Locking hub on the end disc is eliminated. No bending moment is transmitted from the drum to the shaft. All drum and shaft deflection is acconted for by the double row spherical bearings.
• Low shaft stress. With the elimination of the bearing tapered adapter, a larger shaft can be used in the same bearing.
• No shaft fatigue. The shaft does not turn. Therefore, rotational fatigue is eliminated.

Mounting:

• A simple mount on dummy pillow blocks. Four bolts, two keepers and it's out. No alignment or shimming is required when the replacement is installed.
